A check valve, also called a non-return valve (NRV), lets fluid flow one way only. Flow pushes the valve open; when flow stops or reverses, the disc closes on its own. It needs no handle, which is why check valves protect pumps, compressors and meters from backflow.

Is a check valve the same as a non-return valve?+
Yes. Check valve and non-return valve (NRV) are two names for the same thing: a valve that allows flow in one direction only.
Swing check or spring check?+
Swing check valves have low pressure loss and suit horizontal lines. Spring (inline) check valves close faster, reduce water hammer and can be fitted vertically or horizontally.
What does a foot valve do?+
A foot valve sits at the bottom of a pump suction pipe. Its check disc holds the water column so the pump stays primed, and its strainer keeps debris out of the pump.
