uPVC (unplasticised PVC) is rigid, light and does not corrode, which makes it the standard material for drainage, waste and vent lines. PVC pressure pipe is made to carry water under pressure for supply and irrigation lines. Both are joined with solvent cement, with unions where a line must come apart.

Common questions
What is the difference between uPVC and PVC?+
uPVC is unplasticised PVC: rigid and used for drainage and pressure pipe. In the pipe trade "PVC" usually means the same rigid material; flexible PVC is used for hoses instead.
Can uPVC drainage pipe be used for water supply?+
No. Drainage pipe is not rated for pressure. Use PVC pressure pipe of the right class for water supply lines.
